The Oregon Trail is a classic text-based adventure game meant to simulate emigrating from Iowa to Oregon in 1848 during the height of Western settlement. The game is simple, yet complicated. Players had to make many choices that could influence the game, including what kind of wagon to use, who you want on your wagon (men, women, children), which route to take across the prairies and mountains, what items you would pack in your wagon, where to spend your winter at a "village" along the route, and how much time to spend making money.
The game ends when a player either loses all their health during an attack by Indians or reaches their final destination.
The Newer Version
The original version of the game was very different from how it is now. It took place in 1848, but only covered the major rivers flowing into the Pacific Ocean, including the Columbia River 120 miles north of where it is now. The backdrop was a dense forest filled with giant trees that could be chopped down for construction needs along the trail. Prairie grasslands were nowhere to be seen.
Explore Villages and Trails
In the original version, there were no villages along the trail, and no winter. In fact, temperatures dropped as low as -38 to -40 degrees Fahrenheit. In the first edition of the game, there were two types of wagon – a covered wagon and a freighter – each with a different set of requirements for what could be carried. The freighter could transport more cargo but was slower and weaker than a covered wagon.
Sell or Trade Supplies
One interesting way to make money was by selling or trading items found along the trail. You could also buy supplies from an Indian trader who had set up shop at trading posts along the way.
The Oregon Trail: Settler game is an epic adventure game that lets you go on an incredible adventure back into those days where you could trade supplies, buy wagons, settle with your family, farm land and so much more. The game lets you understand the history of that time and also has new features that can not only help you get more out of the game but also give you a better experience, better graphics, and gameplay.
