The titular character in the Karate Kid (1984) learns martial arts to fight off bullies and to defend his family. Eventually, he learns that fighting is not the answer and that restraint is the key to life. This is one of the central aims of the Korean martial arts style known as Taekwondo. Its practitioners are disciplined and strictly adhere to Taekwondo philosophical principles, derived from Buddhist, Confucian, and Taoist beliefs. In order to “do Taekwondo” you need to study its philosophical tenets, get fit, learn its fighting techniques.
